Focus Challenge Day 1 of 21: A Checkup From the Neckup

Day 1

Step up your success by writing the statement highlighted below, at least 25 times, if not more. Memorize this statement because you are going to repeat it every night before you sleep.

“I release all negative energy from my body and mind. I command my subconscious mind to focus only on things that are edifying to my body, mind and spirit in all that I do.”

Write it on scraps of paper, receipts, a journal, wherever. Then say it out loud a few times before you go to sleep. Then dwell on it while you drift off into deep, satisfying sleep.

Why is it that so many people find it difficult to sleep at night and take over 30 minutes to finally fall into a restful sleep? Because we’re focused on negative things. Relationships, circumstances that bring negative energy into our lives. They trouble our spirit – and in all reality these are things over which we have absolutely no control.

Great sleep is essential for focus. And by essential, I mean non-negotiable. It’s probably one of the most important aspects of being able to focus on our work as MusicPreneurs. And sadly, one of the things we most often neglect.

If you’re in a bad mood, if you find yourself unable to focus on what you’re doing, ask yourself: How did I sleep last night? If you didn’t sleep well, then ask yourself, “What is troubling me?” Are you getting 4 hours of sleep because you think that you must get X,Y and Z done ASAP? You’re selling yourself short.

By repeating the phrase over and over until you drift off, you prevent your mind from replaying negative events from the day.

Your brain will do as you command, IF you command it. Drifters allow their brain to wander here and there and repeat negative issues until they’re all worked up over them. They have conversations with their mind – usually disguised as conversations with people that are troubling them – and think they’re being productive. When the exact opposite is the case.

Your subconscious mind believes that since you think negative, that is what you want. So it simply gives you more of what you ask for.

Constantly repeating the phrase every night will cue your brain to search and bring into action what you desire. The ability to focus on what truly matters will become much easier and shortly become a part of your daily life.

So again, remember this phrase: “I release all negative energy from my body and mind. I command my subconscious mind to focus only on things that are edifying to my body, mind and spirit in all that I do.”

Write it, say it, repeat it until it becomes a part of your subconscious. By the end of this 21-day Focus Challenge, it will be a habit!

Potpourri: If you’re really into what I’m talking about here, I recommend an app for your smartphone called Sleep Cycle. It’s not free, but it’s not expensive either. It will track your body movements while you sleep and let you know the quality of sleep you got the night prior. As a bonus, it will wake you during a period of time where you’re not in deep REM sleep, so you feel rested and energized and ready to face the day and the challenges that lie therein!
